Stanislava Pinchuk: The Archaeology of Loss

The Archaeology of Loss is Ukrainian-Australian artist Stanislava Pinchuk’s first Western Australian exhibition of her conceptual poetics and engagement with sites of global conflict and catastrophe.

Stemming from her experiences of the illegal invasion of Ukraine by Russia, Pinchuk’s practice speaks to personal and collective experiences of cultural displacement while wrestling with history and the material and immaterial costs of conflict.

Bringing together Pinchuk’s sensitively rendered pin-hole topographical drawings, terrazzo sculptures and incidental photography, The Archaeology of Loss evocatively traces the relationship between meaning and non-meaning within landscapes drastically altered by natural and human-made violence and destruction.

Simultaneously hopeful and despairing, The Archaeology of Loss reflects on the ways landscape holds memory and testament to traumatic events.
