Clay Connections

Clay Connections brings together works from community ceramic studios, teachers, and students across Western Australia in a celebration of clay as both an ancient medium and a vibrant contemporary artform.

Conceived as a living library of ceramic objects, the exhibition showcases the breadth of practice in WA; from emerging voices to established makers, across diverse cultural backgrounds, generations, and approaches.

Clay has always carried profound meaning. It is a material that connects people to place, history, and each other. From the earliest civilizations to today, it has shaped daily life, ritual, and artistic expression. In community studios, classrooms, and shared kilns, clay continues to foster dialogue and exchange, binding people through making and learning together.

Displayed collectively, these works highlight clay’s versatility—its ability to hold memory, embody experimentation, and reflect both personal and shared stories. Clay Connections invites us to consider how this community of makers is shaping the future of ceramics: as a vessel for creativity, resilience, and connection.
