About the class
Spend the day in our studio with artist Joss Gregson in this unique dog portrait workshop.
The morning begins with a live drawing session featuring Joss’s own dog, Fig, as our canine model. Through a series of guided drawing exercises, you’ll develop skills in observation, composition, light, shape, gesture, and capturing a sense of movement. Think life drawing—but with a dog instead of a nude model.
After lunch break, you’ll use these drawing studies as a foundation for creating a painted portrait of your own dog, working from a photograph or printout. With guidance throughout the afternoon, you’ll explore structure, colour, and expression, developing a painting that captures your dog’s unique character.
Balancing focused skill-building with a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, this workshop is perfect for dog lovers looking to improve their drawing and painting while creating something personal.
Suitable for all levels. Materials included, but if you have your own paints and preferred brushes and kit, feel free to bring it along.
What to bring:
- An A4 size photo of your dog
Building Accessibility
Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre is a heritage-listed building with access limitations. While there are no lift facilities within the main building, the ceramics studio is wheelchair accessible. We acknowledge these limitations and are committed to improving accessibility where possible. We continue to explore ways to make our programs more inclusive and encourage you to reach out if you have any questions.
