About the class
Discover fine-art fundamentals through the versatility of digital art! In this 3-week course, students will use an iPad and Procreate to explore essential drawing and painting techniques while enjoying the flexibility and freedom of a digital medium.
Drawing on traditional studio practices and old master painting methods, participants will learn how to create the illusion of depth and form, understand proportion, control light and shadow, and build confidence with colour. Through guided exercises, students will develop their skills using techniques such as tonal underpainting, colour blocking, edge control and layering to create convincing, expressive artworks.
Working across still life, portraiture and coastal landscape studies, you’ll gain practical experience applying these foundational principles while exploring digital painting tools that emulate traditional media. This short course is perfect for beginners and developing artists looking to strengthen their artistic foundations while embracing contemporary digital techniques.

Building Accessibility
Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre is a heritage-listed building with access limitations. While there are no lift facilities within the main building, the ceramics studio is wheelchair accessible.
We acknowledge these limitations and are committed to improving accessibility where possible. We continue to explore ways to make our programs more inclusive and encourage you to reach out if you have any questions.
